Gresham College lecture on social media

So what is Social Media then? That was my first question when preparing this lecture. To my astonishment I could not find a readily accessible definition. I then started to look for high-quality work on Social Media, by which I mean papers published in high-quality venues written by people who are disinterested in the outcome. These papers are thin on the ground. So there is an underlying theme in this lecture which is the impoverished state of research in social media.
